About Dr. Boatman

Dentistry that starts by listening

Dr. Boatman grew up in Lincoln, California, the second of four boys — football, dirt bikes, camping, and snowboarding the Donner Pass resorts. He always wanted to live somewhere it snowed, closer to the mountains. He studied biomedical sciences at Brigham Young University–Idaho, where he met his wife, Emily, and earned his DDS at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 2026. The two of them welcomed their two children while they were in Colorado.

He spent much of his free time in dental school assisting on advanced procedures in the school's graduate periodontics program and General Practice Residency, and finished his requirements six months ahead of graduation — which placed him in the school's honors endodontic program, performing endodontic therapy (root canals) on the residents' schedules. Over three separate weekends at the Colorado Surgical Institute he assisted on more than 100 implants.

He also spent 21 weeks in public health practices across Colorado, where he saw first-hand the impact dental care can have on a person's life. For that work he received the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless Award, one of three recipients that year. He hopes to bring that same range of care to patients here in the valley.

He found Dr. Seyfried's listing while he was still in dental school and connected with him then, long before any of this came together. He is committed to conservative, patient-first dentistry: preserving healthy tooth structure, explaining every option, and letting you make the call. He currently practices at Seyfried Dental Arts in Minden, Nevada, and will purchase the practice at the end of August. He cares for patients from Minden, Gardnerville, and the greater Carson Valley.

Dr. Boatman likes to work hard and play harder. He's an avid snowboarder, surfer, and dirt bike rider, and when he isn't hanging around with his kids you'll find him fly fishing the river, mountain biking, at the beach with the family, or out on a family snowboard trip. He and Emily chose Carson Valley because there's nowhere better to live, work, and raise a family.

Seyfried Dental Arts has served Minden and Gardnerville families for nearly two decades. At the end of August, Dr. Boatman will purchase the practice and it will become Boatman Dental.
