About Boatman Dental

Hometown care with a modern standard

A Carson Valley practice built on honesty, comfort, and dentistry done right the first time.

Our story

Continuing a Carson Valley legacy

Previously known as Seyfried Dental Arts, this practice has cared for families across Minden, Gardnerville, and the wider Carson Valley for nearly two decades. Dr. Boatman and the team are carrying that tradition forward with the same familiar faces, updated technology, and a renewed commitment to making every visit comfortable and clear. You'll still see the Seyfried Dental Arts name on our sign and on your billing statements for the time being — that is the paperwork catching up, nothing more. Same building, same team, same phone number. We operate as Boatman Dental.

We're your neighbors. We shop at the same stores, ride the same trails, and watch the same sunsets hit Job's Peak. When you sit in our chair, you're not a number on a schedule — you're part of a community we're proud to serve.

What we stand for

Three commitments we make to every patient

Honesty first

We recommend what we'd recommend to our own family — nothing more, nothing less. Every plan comes with clear pricing before treatment begins.

Comfort always

From gentle technique to connecting you with trusted local sedation specialists when needed, we've built the entire visit around helping anxious patients feel safe and in control.

Quality that lasts

We invest in modern materials, imaging, and continuing education so your dentistry looks natural and holds up for years.

Dr. Tanner Boatman, DDS

Dr. Boatman was born and raised in Lincoln, California, the second of four boys. He grew up playing football, riding dirt bikes, camping, snowboarding the Donner Pass resorts, and doing just about anything else that happened outdoors. His family took multiple trips a year to camp and ride outside the Pyramid Lake area, and somewhere in all of that he decided he wanted to live where it snowed, close to the mountains.

He went to Brigham Young University–Idaho for his undergraduate work, graduating with a degree in biomedical sciences, and that's where he met his wife, Emily, who is from Gilbert, Arizona. He earned his DDS at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 2026, and the two of them welcomed their two children while they were in Colorado. Somewhere between Idaho and Colorado, he and Emily knew they wanted to end up in a mountain town. He found Dr. Seyfried's listing while he was still in dental school and made a connection with him then — long before any of this came together.

He spent much of his free time during dental school in the school's graduate periodontics program and General Practice Residency, assisting on advanced procedures. He finished his requirements six months ahead of graduation, which placed him in the school's honors endodontic program performing endodontic therapy — root canals — on the residents' schedules. He received his implant training at the Colorado Surgical Institute.

He also spent 21 weeks in public health practices around the state of Colorado, where he saw first-hand the impact dental care can have on a person's life. For that work he received the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless Award, one of three students recognized with it that year. He hopes to bring that same range of care to his patients here in the valley.

In the chair, that adds up to conservative, patient-first dentistry: preserving healthy tooth structure, explaining every option, and letting you make the call.

Dr. Boatman likes to work hard and play harder. He's an avid snowboarder, surfer, and dirt bike rider, and when he isn't hanging around with his kids you'll find him in the river fly fishing, out mountain biking, at the beach with the family, on a family snowboard trip, or into whatever else this region has to offer. He and Emily chose Carson Valley because there's nowhere better to live, work, and raise a family.
